- Dr Andrew SleighAssociate Dentist
Clinical Director. BChD (Leeds) (Eng) 2001 PGDip Endodontics (Chester) GDC: 79306. Special interest in : Endodontics. He has completed further qualifications in advanced dentistry and has a special interest in cosmetic dentistry using before and after photographs. He always takes his time with his patients, ensuring that he provides gentle dentistry in a relaxed manner.
- Dr Alexandra GriffinAssociate Dentist
BDS (London) 1998 MFDS RCS (Eng) GDC: 74678. She graduated from The London Hospital Medical and Dental school in 1998 and after completing her vocational training she went and worked in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Newport Hospital combined with Community Dentistry. She continued her time in hospital, completing another year at The Royal Surrey in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, where she gained her Fellowship in Dental Surgery postgraduate qualification in 2001. Following this she moved out to Australia to work in Westmead Hospital, rotating between Oral surgery, Paediatric Dentistry and Forensic Dentistry. This gave her a great deal of experience with nervous patients and treatment with sedation. Alex then became involved with teaching the students and nurses before entering into private practice. On returning to the UK she has continued to work in Private Practice and she particularly enjoys creating aesthetic resin restorations and has a special interest in Orthodontics. She is currently in her final year of an Orthodontic MSc at Warwick University. Away from work Alex is married with three children, as well as a dog. She is very keen on sports but mainly snowboarding, for which I gained my instructor qualification in Canada in 2003.

Practice Owner. BChD (Leeds) 2004 GDC: 83405. As the Principal Dentist and business owner, my aim is to provide our patients with an enjoyable visit to the practice. We pride ourselves on focusing on advanced, preventative dentistry. We use the latest technology and materials to place long-lasting restorations and work with our patients to coach them about how to look after their mouths. We do this because I believe that dentistry is moving into the 21st century and that it doesn’t need to be painful, or ugly, and should be a pleasurable experience with fantastic solutions available to you.
- Dr Ruairi CunnaneAssociate Dentist
BSc (UCD), BDS (Peninsula Dental School), MJDF RCS (Eng), Dip Con Sed (Ncl) GDC: 212457Ruairi graduated with an Honours BSc degree in Biochemistry from University College Dublin, and then went on to study Dentistry at Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry.He has worked in general practice in Devon and as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation trust since then.Ruairi’s particular interests are in cosmetic, implant and general dentistry. He also has experience treating very anxious patients using sedation and is committed to providing gentle dentistry. He understands that it is important to build a long-lasting patient relationship with his patients, helping them to achieve a smile they are proud to wear. Ruairi has completed both the The Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD) course for dentists and also a Diploma in Newcastle.He is also in the second year of his three-year MSc in Dental Implants at Bristol UniversityHe is a member of the British Dental Association and gained his Diploma of Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties at The Royal College of Surgeons of England (MJDF RCS Eng) in 2012.

BDS (Birm) 1993 GDC: 69491Originally from the Midlands, Jim qualified from Birmingham Dental School in 1993 before moving to Wales to begin a career in general practice.With over 20 years experience in private and NHS practice, including 15 years as a practice owner, he recently moved to Devon after his children moved to the area for education.Throughout his time in practice, he has been committed to providing patients with great service and quality care, and is looking forward to building new relationships with the great patients at The Exeter Dental Centre.

BDS (Hons) MFGDP DPDS 1995 GDC: 70622Qualifying in 1995 from Bristol, Jo has recently joined us and brings with her 20 years of experience and skill in preventive dentistry aimed at reducing decay and gum disease for individuals and families, the management of complex dental needs, including dental implants along with sedation techniques to help anxious patients.Joanna strives for excellence in her field and believes in working with you and the whole dental team to achieve a healthy mouth that will last for many years helping to keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. She can provide you with comprehensive care for all your needs, in particular sedation for anxious patients, complex ‘mouth rebuilds’ , cosmetic treatments and implants. Her key message is about building a relationship centred around mutual trust and respect to ensure you receive individually tailored treatment of the highest calibre.She has recently been awarded a Diploma in Dental implants with distinction and is on the second year of her Masters degree in Restorative Dentistry. She is a clinical supervisor for the dental students at Peninsula Dental School.

BSc (Hons), BDS (Hons) Peninsula 2014 GDC: 251824Qualifying in 2014, Andrew has recently joined the team at The Exeter Dental Centre. Born in Scotland, he grew up in Wiltshire before making Devon his home. Before dentistry he studied Biochemistry at the University of Warwick, and graduated with first class honours. He soon realised however that teeth and gums were far more interesting so moved to Devon to study at Peninsula Dental School, where he graduated with honours and won four end-of-year awards. Andy enjoys all aspects of general practice dentistry, with a particular interest in restorative techniques.
- Dr Phil BennettAssociate Dentist
LDS RCS Eng 1979, BDS Lond 1978 GDC: 52604With over 30 years experience, Dr Phil Bennett is now a European Expert in Dental Implantology bringing skills that are unique in the South West region to The Exeter Dental Centre.When he is not in practice, he lectures, both nationally and internationally, on implantology as well as working with a number of dental implant technology manufacturers as an educator. He is a past President of the Association of Dental Implantology (UK), which is the umbrella organisation for dental implant work in this country and a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.Well-known within the profession for his state of the art dental implants, he enjoys working with patients to achieve their aspirations for a more confident smile.
- Dr Hilary Cooke
BDS (Witwatersrand) (1988) MDent (Witwatersrand) (1994) GDC Number: 69126We are proud to work with Hilary as our resident periodontal specialist, here at The Exeter Dental Centre.With years of experience treating patients with gum disease, from surgical to regenerative procedures, she will work with our patients to diagnose and control all types of advanced gum disease.Dr Hilary Cooke has over 25 years’ experience as a dentist and Specialist in treating gum disease. She is registered as a Specialist in Periodontics with the General Dental Council London and has lectured widely in South Africa and the United Kingdom. Hilary relocated to Scotland in 1996 and was based at the University of Dundee. A year later she moved to the West Country and established a Periodontal Referral Centre, accepting referrals from all counties in the south west.Prior to joining the Exeter Dental Centre, Hilary was lead clinician at the School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield Outreach training programme based in Chesterfield. Hilary is a member of many professional bodies including the British Society of Periodontology, The European Federation of Periodontology and the American Academy of Periodontology.Before returning to the UK, she was a member of the Academic Staff of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg where she was Specialist/Consultant in Periodontics and Oral Medicine.Hilary is now our resident in-house Periodontist and brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge of periodontal profiles. She has a special interest in aesthetic reconstructive periodontal procedures enabling enhancement of a confident smile and since June 2014, she has been employed by the University of Plymouth as a Clinical Supervisor based at the Peninsular Dental School in Truro.
