Dental Studio – Carluke Smile Studio

Dr Sheraz Shafiq graduated from Glasgow Dental Hospital in 2003. This was followed on by General Professional Training (GPT) as a Senior House Officer in Oral Surgery at Glasgow Dental Hospital where I developed superb surgical skills, and a Senior House Officer at Maxillo Facial Department in Southern General Hospital. I was also a Community Dentist for Lanarkshire where I underwent Sedation Training along with working with people who have special needs. I completed my membership exam in 2005 for Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow. I then undertook a 2 year course in Restorative Dentistry at Royal College of Surgeons England. I have since gone on to complete The Ultimate Implant Year Course and have travelled to different countries to gain further knowledge in Implant Dentistry including an Advance Implant Course in South Africa and several Advanced Implant Aesthetic Courses in London to mention a few. I have worked and trained with a few of Scotland’s excellent Implantologists. I have become a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow (RCPSG), Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP), British Dental Association (BDA) and Association of Dental Implantology UK (ADI).  I have a special interest in Implants and Cosmetic Dentistry. I have also completed my Certification in CFAST and Fast Braces course allowing me to provide a 6 months smile technique to patient looking to straightening their teeth, quickly and efficiently with great results. With the great results many of my associates have completed this course and have completed many cases. I have recently been involved in the revolutionary DSD (Digital Smile Design), blending digital techniques with conventional smile designs. I undertook this training course in New York City, allowing me to design perfect smiles which are in harmony with the patient’s facial profile. I provide a warm, friendly welcome to all patients and work colleagues at the practice all of whom are impressed by the amazing results I achieve throughout.

My I continue to maintain a keen interest in oral surgery, and continue to do most surgical procedures in practice. The practice provided much treatment under sedation (both intravenous and inhalation sedation) – this enabled me from an early stage to gain experience of sedation, and I have used sedation for apprehensive patients ever since. I attended the “SAAD” sedation courses, and have attended many sedation courses over the years. In addition, I developed a keen interest in hypnosis, and have attended many hypnosis courses and conferences, and have been a member of the British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis since 1982. I use hypnosis on its own, or in combination with inhalation sedation, to help with the management of anxious / phobic patients. In 1984 I built up a practice from scratch firstly as an associate, and then from 1990 to  2010 as owner/principal thus developing my patient management skills, and the consideration of practice goodwill enhancement. I am now based in Carluke Dental Studio four days per week (Tuesday to Friday) and am always keen to see apprehensive patients for whom sedation would help to overcome their anxiety.

My name is Cammila Omair, I am Senior Dental & Aesthetic Nurse. I started here as a student in 2013 and was given the job opportunity to work along-side Kalomoira, who started full-time the same time as myself. We have similar names and patients sometimes mix up our names as they are so similar. We work so well together and understand one another’s body language so well! I really enjoy the Surgical Aspect of Dentistry and have gained experience in some Surgical Surgeries and Implant Placement. I also enjoy working with anxious patients and being the Sedation Nurse. I also manage our Online pages and keep everyone up to date with whats going on at our sites. I have an extreme case of OCD and find it hard to sit still, which most of my work colleagues will agree with! I’m always looking for something to keep me busy! I enjoy spending time with my husband and going to my local gym!

My name is Adele. I am Patient Advisor & Reception Manager at Carluke. I have been here since 2011 as a HND Dental Nurse Student, I then qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2013. I worked chair side for around a year and half and was offered the job on Reception. I took this decision to grasp some knowledge on the business aspect. I enjoy this role and wish to expand my knowledge and take on more courses into further management. In my spare time I like to spend time with my friends and catch up on the latest movies with my boyfriend! I would describe myself as quiet, extremely organised & cheerful to be around.

My Name is Kirsty Andrew, I am a now a qualified Dental Nurse. I started here as a student in 2015 and qualified in 2016 this year! I am extremely happy to have landed myself a job at Dental Studios Scotland as I sometimes do LOCUM at our sister practices and work alongside Dr Malcom Strang when not at other practices. I enjoy this as I have gained so much experience in this short time working along various dentists. I like working with Dr Strang as he has a lot of experience and played a huge part in my qualification. I assist during Surgical Treatments and Inhalation Sedation to treat nervous patients. My hobbies outside of work include going out and meeting with friends and spending time my boyfriend.

My name is Debbie, I have been a student here for two years. I had continuous help from my mentor Cammila Omair to help me on my way. I have recently Qualified in NEBDN Dental Nursing this year. I am currently looking at going back to do the HND qualification. In the meantime I cover holidays at Carluke. I enjoy this as it gives me a break from home as much as I like to spend time with my girls. I enjoy movie nights at home tucked in PJ’s with the kids and vacations when I can squeeze one in!
