Sparkly Smile – The Blackheath Village Dental Practice

Phil joined the practice to work with his father, having qualified from Guy’s Dental Hospital in 1988, and has worked here happily ever since. Phil has developed the cosmetic and preventative side of the practice, overseeing the introduction of hygienists, endodontists, periodontists and the implant centre to the team. At Sparklysmile we like to keep abreast of the technological advances being made in dentistry. Phil introduced the intra-oral cameras, the air abrasion and the Wy10 whitening procedures to the practice together with the Smile Lift techniques which he learnt at the Rosenthal Institiute in New York and has since been aiding the teaching programme when it is held in the UK. Phil has also been helping teach “Smile Design” at the Senova Dental Studio in Watford and is a active member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Phil is the most experienced member of the Facial Rejuvenation team and is the practice’s IT person. More recently, Phil has been to Florida to train at the Dawson Academy, whose aims are to train dentists to provide long-lasting solutions to dental problems with a particular emphasis on the problems in the way the teeth meet and the jaw works. The latest developments in the orthodontic world have also been embraced with the use of fast-acting removable braces such as the inman aligner and the cosmetically shaded fixed braces to ensure that when changes are considered we are as kind to the teeth as possible – moving them in to a better position before making them look good. Phil believes a true Sparklysmile is so much more than cosmetic. It emanates from the confidence and comfort of having healthy teeth and gums that are as well-cared for as they can possibly be. Phil has been an elected representative for local dentists on the Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark Local Dental Committee, the Metropolitan Branch of the British Dental Association and the London Council of the British Dental Association and helped set up the South Thames Branch of the Independent Practice Committee. Over the years, Phil has also written for a selection of dental journals. Living locally in Blackheath most of his life, means help is always close at hand, should you be experiencing problems.

Lydia joined Sparklysmile in 2007. We are really proud of her for winning the award for Best Young Dentist in London at the end of 2008. She then began 2009 by winning an award for The Preventive Dentistry Magazine “Practice Of  The Year Award” and capped this off by being nominated for: The Best Charity / Community Project by Private Dentistry Magazine, Best Young Dentist in London 2009 and an Outstanding Achievement Award.For the past five years, Lydia has been involved with running a dental clinic for orphans and street children in Cambodia . She travels regularly to help at the clinic, taking much needed equipment as a result of her fundraising activities.  In 2010, she funded a Cambodian dental nurse to come to England for one month to learn how to make simple dentures for the children to help them become employable and raise their self esteem. At the charity, Lydia works alongside seven other dentists from around the world, including the former UK Chief Dental Officer, to raise the profile of dental health for children in Cambodia.As well as post graduate dental training in the UK, Lydia has invested a lot of her time training in state of the art techniques in America. She has trained in Florida with the renowned Dawson Academy looking at the way the teeth meet and jaws function. More recently, Lydia was in Arizona using CEREC technology to provide patients with instant ceramic restorations.Lydia has experience in all areas of general and cosmetic dentistry and has a particular interest in helping people who clench or grind their teeth and in the long term effects that this can have. She particularly enjoys the creative and artistic side of cosmetic dentistry and takes pride in producing high quality, natural looking restorations.

Nilesh completed his second MSc in 2009 in Implants at Guys Hospital, having previously qualified with an MSc in Prosthetics at the Eastman Dental Hospital and has been travelling internationally to learn advanced techniques to ensure that we can provide the most up to date treatments available.These days, there is almost always a way in which you can improve your dental health. Nilesh is at the practice each week and also has a practice in Essex, where he has a highly advanced 3D (Cone Beam) scanning machine. If needed, he is able to assess exactly what condition your jaw is in before implants are placed. This level of planning really helps us to provide you with the optimal care.

Anton is a graduate in dentistry from Guy’s Hospital, London. He received post-graduate training in the Orthodontic Department at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, where he obtained an MSc degree with a thesis on the topic of 3-dimensional radiographic imaging of the face. He is also a Diplomate and currently treasurer of the American Board of Orthodontics and a certified Invisalign® provider.Using various techniques, Anton can manage all types of orthodontics – from mild crowding to complex cases in both developing children and adults.

Daniel is a friendly and caring dentist with a special interest in endodontics. He has a diploma in restorative dentistry and is currently training to become a specialist at the prestigious dental department at King’s College, London. He has volunteered as a dentist in Guinea-Bissau, plays football and squash in his spare time and lives locally to Blackheath.

Stella qualified with honours from the Dental School of Aristotle University, Thessaloniki in Greece. She then entered general practice where she developed a special interest in the field of Endodontics. In 2011 she was selected for the Masters Programme in Endodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute in London, which she completed, winning the Dentsply Maillefer Endodontic Prize.
Stella currently works as a Specialty Doctor in Endodontics at the Eastman Dental Hospital in London and in private practices limited to Endodontics in Bedford and Cambridge. Stella is confident to undertake all your root canal needs in a calm, pain free and gentle manner.

Naseem works as a dentist at Sparklysmile. Naseem qualified at Guys with Phil in 1988 and has continued her studies ever since. Naseem has an MSc in Healthcare Management which she passed with a distinction and her dissertation was on quality in general dental practice . We are sure you will appreciate Naseem’s calm and well thought out approach to both adult and child patient care.
